About Midwest Crossroad Chorus

Midwest Crossroad Chorus is dedicated in its effort to preserve and celebrate barbershop music by educating both performers and listeners in the elements of its style. The chorus meets weekly to enjoy harmony and fellowship....and to have fun!

Performance

The goal of the Midwest Crossroad Chorus is to harmonize our corner of the world!  We sing on our own annual shows, at community events and during competitions.  We deliver musical greetings such as Singing Valentines, Christmas Cards and Birthday-Grams. We would love to sing at your next function, so if you're looking for a unique musical experience to enliven your event, please check out our "Hire Us" section!

Education

In addition to sharing our music, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of a capella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals and a very important component of the chorus experience. Several times a year, we enjoy being coached by a visiting master in the art of barbershop; during these sessions, we hone our skills and learn many fabulous tricks of the trade!

Competition

Every spring, Midwest Crossroad Chorus participates in the Midwest Harmony Region 3 Convention and Competition. Competitions offer a special venue for quartets and choruses from our region to come together to sing for each other and to get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories earn the right to compete on the big stage at the annual fall Sweet Adelines International Competition held in a major city, generally in the United States, selected each year by the Sweet Adelines International Board of Directors.

The Midwest Crossroad Chorus is a 4-time Region 3 Champion.  The chorus also competed on the International stage in Las Vegas, Denver, Atlanta, Ft. Lauderdale, and Salt Lake City. In 1997 Midwest Crossroad received the International Harmony Achievement Award, an award given to the highest scoring small chorus in the contest (Ft. Lauderdale).  The chorus has also appeared twice in the Harmony Classic, Division II mid-size category (San Antonio and Seattle), placing 3rd in both competitions.

A special accomplishment for any director, with the help of her chorus, is to attain the status of “Master Director.”  When a chorus scores at least 600 points in any competition, the director receives the title "Master Director." The Midwest Crossroad Chorus was thrilled to advance Tori Hicks to the status of “Master Director” in July 2007, at the Harmony Classic competition in San Antonio, Texas!

The Midwest Crossroad Chorus loves to compete.  The nature of the work that goes into preparing for the event is the very reason the chorus exists--singing, singing and more singing!  The payoff?  Performing for knowledgeable, appreciative  audiences and expert judges, and enjoying the performances of other highly skilled choruses and quartets in our organization!

Quartets

Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. Midwest Crossroad Chorus currently is home to a number of wonderful quartets, and we are very proud of them! Click here to learn more about our quartets.
